Jessa Blades founded Blades Natural Beauty in Spring of 2008, after a long personal struggle to reconcile her love for bringing out the best and most beautiful in women with her concern about the dangers of the cosmetics industry. How can women feel best about themselves and how they look if they're harming themselves (and even their unborn children) to do so? Having spent years learning about the health threats of ingredients in many traditional makeup and beauty products, and tirelessly exploring the fast-emerging natural beauty industry, Jessa started this company so that women could have it both ways—live healthy and look beautiful.

Like so many little girls, Jessa started playing around with makeup when she was three years old, and has been working professionally since graduating Makeup Artistry School in Toronto in 2002. She has since worked with MAC Cosmetics, was for awhile the only makeup artist on the U.S. Virgin Island of St John, and has since freelanced extensively in New York City—where she now lives—for fashion, beauty, and bridal clients.
